Registration and login are required to submit items online and to check the status of current submissions.

Author Guidelines

PLEASE NOTE: to submit an item, you need to be registered as an Author, in which case your initial "User Home" page will show a "New Submission" link. If this is not the case, simply edit your profile and make sure the "Author" role is ticked.

 

Manuscripts should be single-spaced in a serif font and saved in either Rich Text Format (.rtf), OpenOffice (.odt), Microsoft Word (.doc, .docx), ASCII (.txt) or Portable Document Format (.pdf). Illustrations, figures, tables and footnotes should be placed within the body of the document where appropriate. We aim for anonymous review of all submissions so please where possible avoid any obvious references to the author(s) within the body of the text. Any word lengths given include tables and appendices but exclude abstracts and references.

Abstracts, where appropriate, should be a single-paragraph, concise summary (250 words maximum) of the piece of work. Give an overview of the area or approach, a summary of the findings and/or theory, and conclusions where applicable.

References should be cited in the text by author and year of publication in parentheses. List all authors in the first instance, then the first author's surname with "et al" thereafter. Where an author has two or more reports in a given year of publication, use letter suffixes to the year of publication (e.g., Smith, 1995a, b). A reference list should appear at the end of the manuscript in alphabetical order.

Illustrations, figures and tables or charts should be located in the appropriate place within the text, along with a self-explanatory caption or title. Please ensure you have copies of any photographs or illustrations available as seperate image files  - if the manuscript is accepted for publication, you may be asked for these as (ideally) uncompressed, high-resolution graphics files (.jpg, .png, .tiff, etc)  Please ensure that figures will be readable when reduced to their published size (the journal page size is A5 i.e., 148mm width by 210 mm height or half A4 size). Please bear in mind that, due to cost,  anyone ordering a print edition of the journal will only see black and white or greyscale images.

 

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, PDF, or ASCII document file format.
3. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
4. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Copyright Notice

Authors who publish with this journal agree to the following terms:

1. Authors retain copyright and grant the journal right of first publication, with the work 12 months after publication simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution License that allows others to share the work with an acknowledgement of the work's authorship and initial publication in this journal.


2. Authors are able to enter into separate, additional contractual arrangements for the non-exclusive distribution of the journal's published version of the work (e.g., post it to an institutional repository or publish it in a book), with an acknowledgement of its initial publication in this journal.


3. Authors are permitted and encouraged to post their work online (e.g., in institutional repositories or on their website) prior to and during the submission process, as it can lead to productive exchanges, as well as earlier and greater citation of published work (See The Effect of Open Access).
